Description
Algues — seaweed, algae in French — names the subject of Pilar Olivero's 35mm archive: a high-contrast black-and-white close-up of branching marine textures, the sea's slow calligraphy written in fronds and filaments. Coastal margins hold what washes in and keeps its form; here, organic texture studies become the analog subject for analog film, where tide-line stillness meets the grain of light on emulsion. What the tide leaves behind becomes a vocabulary the eye learns letter by letter.
Cut oversized and boxy in cream off-white 260g cotton, each Algues tee carries Pilar's photograph through katagami screen printing, framed by a dark burgundy hand-embroidered border. French text columns rise above the print; "ASLONA." anchors the composition below — words drawn from personal notebooks in French, Arabic, and Spanish. Three creators from Argentina, Chile, and Morocco, working together in Paris, layer embroidery and print in an artisanal process where slight variations make every garment its own record of hand and time.
To wear Algues is to carry the shoreline inward: a reminder that beauty accumulates at the edges, in what the ocean deposits and the eye learns to read. You move through the city wearing the sea's patience — porous, patient, holding form even after the water recedes. Mixing cultures here is not decoration; it is how the margin becomes home.
