Description
¿Cómo construir un refugio? Pilar Olivero posed the question before answering it with light alone. On a sunlit beach, white fabric printed with red and orange florals drapes over a simple wooden frame — sand beneath, ocean horizon stretching beyond, sky washed clean blue. The shelter is provisional, assembled from textile memory and afternoon warmth. Nothing permanent: only cloth held against wind and tide, a roof woven from pattern and sun. This single frame from her 35mm analog archive carries the entire problem of shelter inside one honest scene — the beach as the most truthful refuge we know.
That photograph passes through katagami, Japanese paper stencils that transfer analog grain onto fabric. On an oversized black tee — boxy, generous, 100% cotton — the image settles into depth. Red thread traces the print border by hand; screenprinting layers trilingual text from Pilar's notebooks: French, Arabic, Spanish. ASLONA. sits in white below. Three creators — from Argentina, Chile, and Morocco, working from Paris — built this where cultures meet as love and resistance, frontières deviennent poreuses.
Wearing it keeps the question alive on your chest, unresolved and luminous. Black cotton holds the photograph's brightness; embroidered corner accents catch light like the shelter's floral edge. You carry beach memory against urban skin — a refuge that travels because it was never nailed to one shore.
